DIY gas work, what you should know

image006.gif

image001.gif Under the 1998 Gas Installation and Use Regulations (Regulation 2) 'gas work' is defined by a list of specific activities but this list is not exclusive.

image001.gif Under the 1998 Gas Installation and Use Regulations (Regulation 3) any one carrying out gas work should be competent to do so; this includes gas work for themselves, family, or friends, even if no remuneration is involved.

image001.gif Competencies would require the individual to have valid certificates from an approved training body such as the CITB.  Without these it is difficult to see how someone could be regarded as competent.

image001.gif In common with many other installers I believe that it is not acceptable for a DIYer to hang the boiler, install the flue, run the gas pipe and then ask a CORGI installer to connect up and commission.  PLEASE, DON’T EVEN ASK!

image001.gif To become CORGI registered, individuals need to hold the relevant certificates.

If you don't believe me read this label taken from the side of a major UK boiler manufacturer’s packaging.
